Learning from Rosalind
This week went by very fast, making me question how life can feel so “busy” even when it is largely spent at home. In addition to lots of work and PMS-ing and some social engagements, I spent most of my time watching the Great Pottery Throw Down and going to the pottery studio.
One of the contestants in the show is Rosalind, an older lady from Essex who started off as a fringe character I didn’t pay much attention to and ended up being our favourite “darling”, so much so that I have decided to have more of a Rosalind attitude to life. Let me try to explain with this scene:
A guest potter comes and demonstrates a super difficult technique, that will be the upcoming challenge. We see clips of contestants huffing and puffing, stressing out, getting ready.
Next up is a clip with Rosalind. “What a blessing it was to watch this lady make those beautiful things, I can’t wait to try it out” she says, smiling. You can see that she is genuinely having a good time. All the stress displayed by others suddenly seems futile and childish.
For me, the “Rosalind Attitude” was a brilliant combination of perspective, a genuine sense of gratitude and a willingness to see the most difficult challenges as an opportunity to learn. It thought me a lot about being sweet, humble and kind, not only to others but also to yourself.
Even now, as we enter the last hour of the week, I am becoming agitated, thinking of all that I didn’t manage to get done and the work week ahead, but then I decide to be more Rosalind. It wasn’t a bad week, after all, I celebrated friends, cooked a bunch and had my best throwing moments at the wheel. What a blessing!

P.S: I cannot have a post about the show and not mention Keith Prymer Jones, a human Shrek who shed tears when faced with outstanding pottery. I am leaving you with this:
